Thursday’s warm weather and bright sunshine found PieHole putting the top down on our convertible and heading east to the beach.
We poked around Sea Bright, a hive of reconstruction activity buzzing with backhoes and bulldozers. Strolling a sunny Ocean Avenue, we noticed the breeze carrying the perfume of the ocean and the warming sand, and decided on lunch at Beach Burgers and Grille, one of a handful of new businesses that set up shop in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
The menu at Antonio Murray’s casual restaurant includes typical boardwalk fare, such as cheesesteaks, hot dogs and a couple of fish entries. But the specialty here is the burger, made to order.
We had ours with cheddar ($8.25) and side of fries ($3.50). It came served on an eggy brioche roll. Not quite as large as the bar burgers we’ve been gorging on lately, it still left us feeling satisfied and ready for a nap to get back to the grueling work of PieHole.
If we’d brought a larger appetite, we’d have certainly tried the Old Bay Wings – eating anything with Old Bay seasoning a few steps from the ocean feels right – but that just gives us a reason to head back another time.
