The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $1.8 million contract for the dredging of the Shrewsbury River boating channel, with the spoils to be used to build oceanside dunes in Monmouth Beach.
Getting the 54,000 cubic yards of dredged sand and gravel onto the beach will involve “hydraulically pumping the dredged material .. via pipeline that runs across the peninsula at Seacrest Road from the bay side, under Route 36 by means of directional drilling, over the seawall and directly onto Monmouth Beach,” the agency said in an announcement. The job is expected to start in September and be completed in November. (Photo by John T. Ward. Click to enlarge)
