When last we looked in on Rumson’s Oceanic Free Library, the venerable borough landmark was actively prosecuting a “Raise the Roof!” capital campaign — an endeavor dedicated to funding some needed refurbishments and refreshments of the library building, through fundraising vehicles that ranged from a Cupcake Wars challenge, to an afternoon tea with superstar decorator Mario Buatta.
On Sunday, September 14, it’s “anyone for tennis” — or perhaps a spot of cricket — as the Seabright Lawn Tennis and Cricket Club (Tennis Court Lane in Rumson) hosts an evening benefit event for the library’s cause. Scheduled from 5 to 7:30 pm, it’s an event that promises wine, beer, hors d’oeuvres, plus silent auction, 50/50 and an end-of-summer opportunity to enjoy the scenic setting of the grass-court club founded in 1877.
Tickets ($75 per person) can be reserved through the library website or in person at the library building (Ridge Road and Avenue of Two Rivers). And ladies, please — please — no heels in the clubhouse.
