A six-year-old Red Bank girl and her mother suffered minor injuries when they were hit by a car as they crossed Shrewsbury Avenue Saturday morning, police said.
Cecila Tecalero, 28, and her daughter, Dulce Marie Trejo, were crossing Shrewsbury at West Bergen Place – also known as Drs. Parker Boulevard – with traffic when they were struck in the crosswalk at around 10:28 a.m., police said in a prepared statement.
Police said driver Robert Ayotte, 74, of Middletown, was making a left turn from West Bergen Place onto southbound Shrewsbury Avenue when his vehicle struck the pair.
Mother and daughter appeared to have suffered minor injuries and were transported to Riverview Medical Center to be evaluated, police said.
Police cited Ayotte for careless driving and failure to yield to pedestrians. Patrolman Tom Doremus is investigating.
The accident was the second in the borough involving pedestrians in two days. An 85-year-old woman was critically injured, and her four-year-old great-grandson escaped serious injury, when they were struck crossing Newman Springs Road Thursday night. The woman, Ruth Bell Berry, remained in critical condition at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune.
