A Rumson teen was arrested and about 50 underage drinkers were dispersed from a party Saturday night, borough police reported Tuesday.
Detective Chris Isherwood tells redbankgreen tha Sergeant Damien Brennan and Patrolman James Fenn were on patrol when they came upon “large packs of kids running in the road” outside a Rumson Road residence at about 10:48 p.m.
On further investigation, cops found “numerous bottles of alcohol and cases of scattered beer cans, both opened and unopened,” at a party attended by dozens under 21 years old, he said.
Because of the size of the crowd, police from Sea Bright, Fair Haven and Little Silver were called in to conduct an orderly dispersal, Isherwood said. Parents of inebriated partygoers were called to retrieve their kids, and officers drove others home, he said.
“Our ultimate concern is the safety of the kids, making sure they got home OK,” he said.
Police arrested 18-year-old Kieran Doherty, who was charged with disorderly conduct, obstruction of the administration of the law for allegedly providing false information, and criminal mischief for breaking a window in the rear of the police vehicle. Doherty was released on $7,500 bail set by Judge Richard Thompson.
An owner of the home was present at the time of the party, and while no charges were filed, an “investigation into that aspect” of the matter is continuing, Isherwood said.
In April, 2012, 40 teens from Rumson and Fair Haven, as well as a pair of Rumson homeowners, faced charges following a police raid on a house party after a patrolman came upon an “extremely intoxicated” female juvenile in the area of Bellevue Avenue and Rumson Road.
The homeowners were charged with maintaining a nuisance, a disorderly person’s offense
