The George Sheehan Classic may have left town, but Red Bank residents looking to ease into a trot, or even a run, after a sedentary winter will get their chance in the form of a new offering from the borough parks and rec department.
On Monday, the department will launch an adult intro to running program called “Couch Potato to 5K” that encourages participants who haven’t been exercising regularly to “slowly and gradually work their way up” to a five-kilometer, or 3.1-mile race, says department Director Charlie Hoffmann. The program will proceed at a pace that’s comfortable, safe and geared to less-than-active adults, he said, and the atmosphere is “fun, positive and non-intimidating.”
Classes are scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at Eastside Park on Harrison Avenue. The cost is $30, and advance registration is required. Interested? Make your way to the parks and rec office at borough hall (90 Monmouth Street) or call 732-530-2782.
Information about other new and returning parks and rec programs can be found on the department’s newly launched Facebook page.
