UPDATE: Road remains closed in both directions Monday morning, according to an alert sent out by the Borough of Red Bank at 8:01 am.
A portion of Newman Springs Road in Red Bank remained closed to traffic early Sunday morning after a driver plowed into a utility pole sending wires down across the roadway.
It appeared to be a single car accident in front of Circus Liquors that occurred at about 6:30 am. Witness Dave Adams told redbankgreen the driver spoke to him and was out of his car appeared uninjured.
Newman Springs was closed to traffic between Broad and Henry Streets. The Henry Street entrance to County Basie Park remained open. The Borough of Red Bank sent out an alert at 8:16 am saying the road would be closed for an “extended period due to necessary utility work resulting from the accident.”
