A pair of scheduled closures of main thoroughfares through Red Bank were causing traffic delays and exciting and amusing displays of human behavior Monday morning.
Drs. James Parker Boulevard is closed at the freight line railroad tracks between Central Avenue and Willow Avenue with non-local traffic being diverted with large signs at Maple and Shrewsbury Avenue.
That wasn’t keeping people from driving right up to the closure, then doing a U-turn or trying to wend their way up South Bridge, Willow or Central. Then there was the one driver who plowed right into the “Road Closed” sign and knocked it down while redbankgreen was on the scene shortly before 8 am. Someone might want to set up a popcorn stand.
The second road closure – also scheduled to last all week – is a shutdown of one lane over the Route 35 Cooper’s Bridge. Borough officials sent out an alert about that closure on Friday.
The closure of Drs. James Parker is due to work being done to the railroad tracks. That work was well underway Monday morning.
