Here’s the answer to last week’s “Where.”

Last week’s photo was of the steeple of the longtime church/office building at 211 Broad Street and the roofline of the building just to the south, 225 Broad Street. Also visible is the brick Verizon building. The building at 211 Broad has long been home to the First Church of Christ, Scientist

Ten years ago, a major portion of the church building was converted to office spaces, with the congregation settling into a smaller worship space within the same structure. redbankgreen reported on that conversion here.

Where Have I seen this 211 Broad Street 112025Our photo was taken on Election Day from the parking lot of another church, a few doors down, the United Methodist Church of Red Bank.

Walking out of the polling place inside UMC (not to vote, just to visit after a reader called us to report a broken machine and long lines there, but we found no such problems) we were struck by the yellow foliage framing the church steeple.

For anyone who keeps their eyes remotely open, it’s a daily experience these weeks, just to be stopped dead in your tracks by the stunning foliage. The whole thing was really an excuse to take a picture of that gorgeous yellow tree.

This week’s picture garnered a lot of responses, and a large number of wrong ones.

Of the 20 replies, nine people mistook the church steeple for that of Tower Hill Church. That’s a full chorus of sad trombones!

That church’s steeple is similar in design, but has a different color roofing materials and is topped with a cross, not a weathervane.

Chuck Stern relied on other clues, writing in his response, “This ‘Where’ taught me something.  The design of the steeple at 211 Broad is almost identical to the steeple of Tower Hill Church.  Very, very close. I’ll bet you get a lot of Tower Hill guesses.  But there are a few trim differences, and the other buildings in the photo did not fit the Tower Hill location.”

Another person guessed it was Calvary Baptist Church at 23 River Street.
