Snow Day! The marquee of the Count Basie Center for the Arts declared it bold and bright, and redbankgreen‘s stroll through the storm brought us there Sunday at the perfect time: just as the texts were pinging our phones that local schools would be closed Monday.

The borough also issued a reminder that ordinances require property owners to clear sidewalks of snow and ice within 24 hours of the end of precipitation. Our stopwatch is ticking.
Waiting it to melt is not an option. Whatever fell is going to stick around, with a brutal extended cold snap setting in.
By brutal, we mean overnight low temperatures in the single digits at least through the weekend. The seven-day forecast does not show the temperature rising above freezing at all.
Members of the North Shrewsbury Ice Boat and Yacht Club were hoping some rain might mix in with the storm to smooth out the snow cover if the river freezes solid enough to sail.
“Oh how some rain right now would help the River right now,” reads the club’s Facebook post written Sunday. “Please winter gods give us home ice.”
The winter gods sure were good to folks who like a peaceful stroll through the storm, though.
Here’s some more moments captured during our walk.
The view from inside the historic 1890’s gatekeeper shack by the Red Bank Train Station.
Off to work.

Lost luggage at the Red Bank train station.
Let it snow, indeed.
One more happy husky, Max, who got a little suspicious as a photographer approached.
