It is perhaps one of the greatest triumphs in corporate brainwashing ever achieved: lawn care product companies have wielded a decades-long advertising campaign to convince millions of homeowners that pretty little yellow flowers are an evil that needs to be eradicated with harmful chemicals and time better spent watching baseball or reading a book.
We don’t buy it.
As any three-year-old instinctively knows, dandelions are beautiful.
And so, to celebrate the start of spring, the virtues of idleness, the beautiful dandelion itself, and as a tiny nod towards the goal of more sustainable, Navesink River friendly yard care, redbankgreen is launching its second semi-annual (as in, we forgot to do this last year) Red Bank Dandelion Champion Challenge.
We will award a piece of wearable redbankgreen gear to the homeowner with the most impressive display of dandelions this spring, along with a photo and story describing how you achieved dandelion glory.
Here’s how to enter: email editor Brian Donohue at [email protected] with your name and address and, if you like, a photo of your dandelions.
An experienced dandelion judge will be sent to personally assess the vibrancy of your display and choose a winner from among all the entries. You will be judged on the number of dandelions, their vibrancy, and whatever you say to us to convince us of your devotion to the repudiation of anti-dandelion propaganda and the practice of sitting on the porch doing as little as possible.
redbankgreen editor Brian Donohue may be reached via email at [email protected] or by calling or texting 848-331-8331.
