A very sleepy-looking but otherwise healthy appearing Eastern Box Turtle found on the trail along the Swimming River in Red Bank on Easter morning. In New Jersey, eastern box turtles are listed as a species of special concern due to declining numbers attributed largely to habitat loss. The turtle was put down and went on its way.
