A still image taken from a securty camera shows a man wearing the same clothes as a man seen fleeing agents across the street detained behind a Shrewsbury Avenue building.
Itzel Hernandez, an immigrant rights organizer with the American Friends Service Committee in Red Bank, said the organization was “working to determine how many families were impacted.”
Security camera video and photos show at least two men being detained after teams of agents pulled up near the intersection of Shrewsbury Avenue and Catherine Street.
Two men appear to flee, with agents on foot and in several SUVs chasing one across the street to a vacant auto shop property. A separate image shows three agents detaining him behind the building.
A second video shows another man dressed in a red shirt, red pants and a red hat being led away by three masked agents on the same stretch of Shrewsbury Avenue.
The events occurred shortly before 8:30 am on a quiet Sunday morning, creating a dramatic split-screen reality from one side of Red Bank to the other.
While hundreds of people gathered outdoors under sunny skies at the grand opening of the newly remade Marine Park and at the first Red Bank Arts Festival on Monmouth Street, Red Bank’s west side business district remained largely on lockdown with many residents staying home and businesses shuttered.
Several businesses that normally do a brisk business on Sunday were closed when a reporter visited in early afternoon.
Another ran on a skeleton crew of workers with a man at the door locking the door after each customer entered. On social media, local residents were warning one another not to leave their homes.
The raid is the latest in a series of such operations that have occurred in Red Bank with growing frequency since the Trump administration launched its aggressive immigration crackdowns.
Hernandez, of the American Friends Service Committee, encouraged anyone impacted by the operation to call the organization’s detention hotline Tuesday or Thursday at (973) 474-9861.
Sunday’s arrests were the latest in a series of operations in Red Bank in recent months.
On June 5, video obtained by redbankgreen shows another incident in which masked immigration agents in unmarked cars blocked in a driver on Globe Court and took him away in handcuffs. No further information about that arrest was available.
