Two families were displaced after an early morning fire tore through a duplex at 141-143 Chestnut Street Thursday morning, Red Bank Fire Chief Michael Welsh said.
One firefighter was treated at the scene for exhaustion, but there were no injuries, Welsh said.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the Monmouth County and Red Bank fire marshals, but Welsh said the focus remained on external air conditioning units. Firefighters received a call at 2:33 am of a structure fire.
Fire departments from Middletown, River Plaza, Sea Bright, Little Silver, and Fair Haven assisted with the effort to extinguish the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Monmouth County and Red Bank fire marshals.
The owner of the property is listed in Monmouth County property records as Meir Kasnett, with an address in Lakewood. It was purchased in 2021.
The Red Cross is providing assistance to the two displaced families, Welsh said.
