Here’s the answer to last week’s “Where.”
Last week’s photo was taken from the White Street parking lot, directly behind 50 Monmouth Street, a mixed-use building that houses a couple of apartments and the offices of dentist Edward A. Olson and Premiere Roofing.
We composed the photo so that the clock tower of the old former Borough Hall (now home to Lakehouse Music Academy and Red Bank Catholic High School classrooms) at 51 Monmouth Street kind of looked like it sits atop the building in the foreground. If you didn’t know Red Bank you might think the cupola sat atop the dentist’s office.
The photo above was taken a few paces west and shows more of 51 Monmouth Street, which is owned by Red Bank Catholic. Longtime readers of redbankgreen will remember the controversial sale of the building by the borough for one lousy dollar in 2000.
The buyer, a nonprofit that later merged with the YMCA then sold it to RBC for $2.5 million (they spent more than that just to fix the place up, the YMCA said at the time). spurring several rounds of litigation.
If we were really tough judges, we would deem a correct answer to this week’s question to be onlyu one that correctly identifies the angle of the photo and where the photographer was standing. Our intention was to make it a little tricky and it may have worked.
One responder thought this was a church on the corner of Wall Street and Water Street, (St. Nicholas Orthodox Church) which has itself been the subject of at least two “Where Have I Seen This?” challenges. But not this week! Another person had the RBC building correct but thought we were standing south of that building on Gold Street.
Another person guessed it was the Dune condo complex on Front Street, which we’ve never heard of. Two people were one door off, gussing it was 48 Monmouth, not 50.
Here’s a first: Niko M responded not only with the location but very precise Longitude and Lattide readings for the location: 40°21’00.3″N 74°04’03.8″W.
