Sea Bright residents are scheduled to gather for a town hall meeting Tuesday night to discuss a referendum on whether to bond for new public facilities to replace those destroyed by Hurricane Sandy in October, 2012.
The proposal includes a community center with beach pavilion and library, seen above right, to to be constructed at the edge of the main parking lot, above, and an emergency services building, left, on the former site of the fire and police stations.
The referendum vote, scheduled for September 27, was forced by petitioners who object to the estimated $12.7 million cost of the plan. Proponents argue that the town has a rare opportunity to build badly needed facilities at a net cost of $5.2 million, after accounting for insurance and federal funding. Here’s a discussion of the plan prepared by advocates of the plan: Sea Bright Public Facilities Plan.
