Director (and long-time Late Night with David Letterman writer) Rob Barnett discusses his film “In Memoriam” with Indie Street Film Festival artistic director Alyson Morgan on the first night of the festival at The Vogel on Monday night.
The film stars comedian Marc Maron as a Hollywood actor with a terminal cancer diagnosis who embarks on a campaign to ensure he is included in the annual “In Memoriam” montage at the Academy Awards after his death. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last month.
Barnett, a New Jersey native, introduced the film remarking that he likes Garden State audiences because “people in New Jersey will tell you to your face if you suck. So it’s fantastic. It’s refreshing. It’s not like show business.”
Returning to the stage for the Q&A after the film, Barnett was delighted to see the crowd had clearly, through their laughter throughout the dark comedy and by remaining for the post-film chat, had clearly decided the movie did not suck.
