RUMSON NABS TRIO FOR 18 CAR BREAK-INS

just_in1Rumson, the latest Red Bank-area town to suffer a spate of thefts from unlocked cars and other vehicles, has arrested two juveniles and a young adult for an 18-car break-in spree earlier this week, police Chief Richard Tobias said in an announcement Friday afternoon.

Here’s the announcement:

The Rumson Police Department has been experiencing numerous car burglaries in the recent weeks. After an intense investigation conducted by Detective Chris Isherwood of the Rumson Police Department, Jeffery Hayet, 19, of Oceanport, was arrested and charged with 18 counts of burglary and 13 counts of theft, which all had occurred in the early morning hours on May 18th in the Borough of Rumson. The Honorable Judge Richard Thompson set bail at $50,000, with 10% permitted. Unable to post bail, Jeffery Hayet was transported to MCCI. Two additional individuals, juveniles from the City of Long Branch, were also charged with Juvenile complaints in reference to the incident and were released to custody of their parents. Residents are still advised to be alert to any suspicious vehicles or persons, and to contact the Rumson Police immediately at 732-842-0500, 24hrs a day, and 7 days a week.

All residents are urged to lock their vehicles as other unsolved burglaries from vehicles are still under investigation. If anyone has any information, please call Rumson Police Det. Chris Isherwood.

Tobias tells redbankgreen that the case was made on “just good detective work” by Isherwood and declined to say more about any evidence that might link the suspects to the crimes.

Police are investigating possible ties to break-in sprees in other towns as well, Tobias said.
