IN RED BANK: PRIMPING FOR THE PROM

retail churn smallEarlier this week, Retail Churn brought you the scoop on Emilia, a new dress shop going in at 28 Monmouth Street in Red Bank, with a mention of another fashion store planning the same two doors away, but few details.

On Thursday, we found Lynn Skorenko and a friend in the darkened, 1,000 SF space at 24 Monmouth, blocking off the windows with kraft paper to start renovations for what will be Rue Royale Couture, a business she hopes will be popular with teenaged girls and their moms.

Rue Royale, says Skorenko, will specialize in “upscale,” special-occasion dresses for proms, sweet-sixteen parties, cocktail parties and the like.

No two customers will be sold the same dress, she says, and all of the designer lines she’ll carry will be regionally exclusive to her shop.

Complementing that business will be trade in items for pageant contestants, including custom-fit swimsuits.

The shop is the next chapter for Skorenko, 52, who recently closed a three-year-old pageantwear business in Wayne in order to be closer to home in Eatontown.

Skorenko is intimately familiar with pageant life as the mother of 20-year-old daughter, Christine, who’s been working runways since she was 5 and is now Miss Monmouth County.

“This is a hobby for me,” says Skorenko, who is married to an Ob/Gyn.

She hopes to open by December 11.
