RED BANK: Jersey Shore musicians Joel Krauss and Harry Filkin will play several sets at Basil Ts at 7 p.m.. 183 Riverside Avenue.
MIDDLETOWN: To coincide with the Middletown Arts Center‘s hosting of An Exhibition and Sale Celebrating the 85th Anniversary of the duCret School of Art, painter Michael Donato will present a lecture and demonstration at 7 p.m. that highlights ‘a monochromatic underpainting technique that is the first stage of a painting process used during the Renaissance period.’ The exhibit will remain on display at the MAC gallery through November 26. RED BANK: The Count Basie Theater presents the Tony winning musical adapted from the novel Ragtime, a story about race, class, celebrity and American dreams in a fast changing New York of the early 20th century at 8 p.m. Produced by Red Banks own Phoenix Productions. MIDDLETOWN: The American Association of University Women hosts a used book sale, which continues every Saturday (except holidays), in the basement of the Old First Church starting at 9 a.m. Thousands of bestsellers, childrens books, paperbacks, DVDs and more can be found at bargain prices. 69 Kings Highway.
MIDDLETOWN: To coincide with the Middletown Arts Center‘s tribute to duCret School of Art (see above), professional comic book artist and fantasy illustrator Mark Romanoski presents a lecture and demonstration at 1 p.m. that ‘will show guests how to make the unbelievable believable in all mediums.’ The exhibit will remain on display at the MAC gallery through November 26. RED BANK: Get artsy-smartsy at the Avice Noblett Children’s Room as Red Bank Library hosts the latest session in this monthly series at 2 p.m.. Kids ages 5 and up will learn about Dutch artist Piet Mondrian that’s his ‘Broadway Boogie Woogie‘ at right and create their own masterpieces in his style. Registration is required for this free program. 84 West Front Street.
RED BANK: Red Bank’s Monmouth Conservatory of Music will host a free concert of classical pieces by the acclaimed violist Dorothy Sobieski at 4 p.m. She will be accompanied by MCM director and pianist Vladislav Kovalsky. A Meet the Artists reception with refreshments will follow immediately after the concert. Admission is free. 50 White Street.
MIDDLETOWN: A free, public opening reception at 6 p.m. highlights the aforementioned art sale benefit for the duCret School of Art at the Middletown Arts Center. Sale items include several rare signed Norman Rockwell prints, sketches, and posters, plus works by Red Bank’s renowned James Avati and other acclaimed illustrators. Also on tap: live music, refreshments and silent auction of such limited edition items as an iPad engraved by Yoko Ono. The exhibit remains on display through November 26. RED BANK: The Red Bank Farmers Market ends its annual six-month Sunday encampment in the Galleria parking lot, featuring fresh locally grown produce and homemade crafts from approximately 30 vendors. Opnes 9 a.m., Bridge Avenue at West Front Street.
LINCROFT: Master hypnotist James M. Giunta will host Those Holiday Blues, Here They Come Again, a presentation on coping with and even overcoming the melancholia that afflicts many people during the winter holidays. Held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County, the event will be preceded at 8:45 by bagels and coffee. 1475 West Front Street.
RED BANK: Two River Theater will kick off this years One Book, One Community program, a celebration of reading, literacy education and arts participation keyed to the upcoming production of A Wind in the Willows Christmas. The 10 a.m. event will preview songs from the show that opens in December, followed by a morning of games, crafts, activities, snacks and photo ops. Tickets are free, but reservations are required via phone or website. 21 Bridge Avenue.
LINCROFT: The fiftieth anniversary of the Monmouth Museum will be celebrated with a 2 p.m. kickoff reception to the annual holiday display, featuring trees and trimmings decorated by local garden clubs. Attendants will also be able to enjoy live local music, sweet treats, hors d’oeuvres and a first look at that ‘ever expanding train layout.’ The installation will remain on display during regular museum hours through December 30. 765 Newman Springs Road.
LINCROFT: Join the twelfth annual intercultural service of music, word and dance at the Unitarian Universalist Meeting House at 4 p.m. People of all faiths are invited to sing at this free event, which is sponsored by the Monmouth Center for World Religions and Ethical Thought and the Social Action Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County. 1475 West Front Street.
RED BANK: Go Naked and Check Yourself at Teak Restaurant as a group of Red Bank businesses (including Sugarush and Sweetest Sin Boutique) unite to ‘raise the roof and awareness of detectable cancers’ in a fundraiser for which all proceeds support Young Survival Coalition, Livestrong and the American Cancer Society. The annual ‘Elect to Check’ event, starting at 5 p.m., will feature appearances by Riverview Medical Center doctors, motivational speakers and survivors, as well as demonstrations featuring ‘lingerie and boxer clad models.’ Advance tickets are available from Sweetest Sin or Sugarush.
