Today’s edition of Red Bank oRBit advances a bit of midsummer mayhem coming up at Two River Theater an adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream that’s so (literally) outside the box they had to give it an all-new name: Now Are Frolic.
Performed by a cast of 19 local high school kids from the theater’s Summer Ensemble program, this boundary-busting production (going up for two shows next weekend) escapes the stage, taking the show out into all corners of the building and inviting the audience along for the ride. It’s a wild re-imagining about which it’s being said, No hallway, no window ledge, no backstage area is off limits” and we’ve got a first look at it right here.
Also in oRBit, an appreciation that’s insider-journalist talk for when the interview didn’t come together of Monmouth County’s own world-renowned surf artist Jay Alders (above). The Belmar-based renaissance guy will be present for a solo retrospective of his work on the Asbury Park boardwalk this Friday, and he’ll be inviting some of his big groovy friends including Donavon Frankenreiter, the surfing star turned mellow-rock recording artist for a free mini-concert out on the hardwoods.
