TEAM LINCROFT TO ‘CLIMB OUT OF DARKNESS’

Postpartum depression (PPD), the most common complication of childbirth, affects one in seven women each year. To raise awareness of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, the public is invited to join “Team Lincroft” on June 28, 10 a.m. at Thompson Park in Lincroft to support Climb Out of the Darkness, the world’s largest event to support this cause.

Held on June 28 in locations throughout the country, Climb Out of the Darkness, is the annual awareness raising and fund-raising event for Postpartum Progress, a nonprofit focused on supporting pregnant and new moms with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders like postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, postpartum OCD, postpartum psychosis and pregnancy depression. The Center of Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorders at Monmouth Medical Center will sponsor the local Team Lincroft climb, proceeds from which will support Postpartum Progress.

“Our goal is to make more people aware of PPD and for women to know there’s no shame and no stigma to come forward and ask for help,” says Team Lincroft’s group leader Lisa Madden, RN, CCE, a childbirth and parenting education manager at Monmouth Medical Center.

Lisa, who also leads Monmouth Medical Center’s Postpartum Support Group, recently joined a Climb Out of the Darkness contingent from the tri-state area who was in the audience for the Today show featuring a performance by singer David Gray, whose “Back In The World” is the theme song for Climb Out of the Darkness. Also in the audience was Katherine Stone, founder of Postpartum Progress, along with a group of PPD survivors who held signs that said “I’m back,” signifying their recovery from postpartum depression.

To support Team Lincroft’s climb, contact Lisa Madden at [email protected]. To learn more about The Center of Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorders at Monmouth Medical Center, or to schedule an appointment, call (732)923-6500, option 4.
