A former Red Bank resident has been charged with setting a car on fire in the borough four years ago, police said Monday.
Douglas Arthur, 27, is charged with stuffing a rag into the gasoline fill-pipe of a car and lighting it ablaze on the in the parking lot of the 10 West Bergen office complex, said Chief Darren McConnell.
The car was badly damaged in the blaze, which occurred at around 11 p.m. on September 9, 2010, according to a police report.
McConnell said police were alerted on Saturday by Neptune police that Arthur had been arrested on an unrelated charge and asked to speak to someone from the Red Bank department.
Patrolman Matthew Ehrenreich met with Arthur and “developed him as a suspect” in the arson case, McConnell said, adding that he did not yet have full details of the investigation.
Arthur was charged with arson and criminal mischief. Red Bank Judge William Himelman ordered him held on $15,000 bail.
