Four days after winning their first ever group championship on Saturday, the girls’ lacrosse squad of Rumson-Fair Haven fell to Summit, 10-4, in the semifinals of the Tournament of Champions at Monmouth University Wednesday.
Kyra Weiner led the Bulldogs with two goals and Jacqueline Littleson and Elizabeth Scarrone accounted for the other RFH tallies, but the Hilltoppers scored six straight goals to break a 4-4 second half tie. RFH finished an historic season with a 25-2 record.

On a hot day on the turf at Kean University, the Rumson-Fair Haven girls lacrosse team never gave up the lead in a 14-11 win over Bernards to capture their first-ever Group 2 state championship finals Saturday.
RFH put together a balanced scoring attack. Kyra Weiner had 3 goals and 2 assists and Morgan Steinhacker also had a hat trick to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Bernards got as close as 5-4 in the first half, but RFH pulled away to take an 8-5 lead at the half and scored the first three goals of the second half. Morgan Steinhacker scored back-to-back goals to start the second half to give Rumson-Fair Have a five-goal lead over Shore Regional in the Shore Conference Tournament final at Monmouth University Monday, and the Bulldogs never looked back. Brittany Bruno and Kyra Weiner ended up with three goals apiece for RFH to lead the Lady Bulldogs to their fourth straight SCT title with the 13-5 win. RFH is the top seed in South Jersey Group 2, and will host number 16-seed Paul VI in the first round on Wednesday.
Rumson-Fair Haven’s Robbie Garavente posted a “natural” hat trick of three straight goals to lead the Bulldogs to their fifth Shore Conference boys’ lacrosse title in the last six years with an 8-5 victory over Manasquan Monday. The teams could square off again in the South Jersey Group 2 playoffs: Manasquan is the top seed with RFH coming in at number two.
Rumson-Fair Haven’s Rob Garavente scored three goals and goalie Kyle Knapp had 15 saves as the Bulldogs topped Christian Brothers Academy, 6-4, in Long Branch Thursday advance to the Shore Conference Tournament lacrosse final. The top-seeded Bulldogs will now face number-two seed Manasquan for the championship Monday at 6 p.m. at Long Branch High School.
The Red Bank Catholic girls’ lacrosse squad broke open a 9-7 halftime lead with dominant play in the second half to secure a 20-10 home win against Freehold Township in the quarterfinals of the Shore Conference girls lacrosse tournament Wednesday. With the girls’ lacrosse squad of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional heading into the second round of the South Jersey Group 2 playoffs as the top seed, midfielder Jillian Swikart is clearly a standout. She scored seven goals as the Lady Bulldogs cruised to a third consecutive Shore Conference Tournament championship last week.
But Swikart – who managed the boys’ basketball team this winter – tells Shore Sports Zone that she gets more satisfaction from assists than from scoring herself. Watch for yourself.

With the first day of spring less than a month away, Memone Crystian, director of Red Banks Parks and Recreation department, knows the throes of winter will soon be replaced by… other types of throws.
Her department has crafted a packed schedule of recreational sports for kids in Kindergarten through 8th grade to enjoy on brand new turf in coming months at Count Basie Fields. And in addition to the traditional baseball, softball and soccer offerings, lacrosse will be on the agenda.

A fast-growing, family-owned chain of stores specializing in gear for lacrosse players plans to open a shop in Red Bank.
David DeSimone, an executive with Lacrosse Unlimited, tells redbankgreen‘s Retail Churn the company has leased the 2,250-square-foot storefront at 58 Broad Street, most recently occupied by Hip & Humble Home, and hopes to be open by early December.
The lease would appear to stabilize a stretch of four adjoining storefronts that has seen more than its share of churn in recent years.

Citing capacity issues, Rumson has dropped Fair Haven from its recreation sports partnership, a move that isn’t sitting well with coaches and parents from both riverside towns.
At Tuesday night’s council meeting, Rumson’s governing body caught an earful from miffed residents who accused the borough of making a hasty decision and pleaded for officials to work harder to continue what some called the most successful recreation partnership in the area.
