Coming off a recent deal with the county for road salt that officials say will save the borough more than $100,000, Mayor Pasquale Menna thinks it’s worth looking into for everything from striping of streets to nursing services.
He pushed for the expansion of shared services at Monday night’s borough council meeting.
“The county will bill us what it costs them,” he said. “Smaller and larger towns tell us they’re doing it and saving money.”
He said the range of services could include traffic studies, environmental impact studies and servicing of heavy vehicles, among many others.
“All of these things are mundane, perhaps, but at bare minimum, we ought to look into it,” Menna said.
With that, he persuaded the council to table a resolution that would have renewed the borough-based Visiting Nurse Association of Central New Jersey‘s contract for seniors’ flu shots and other public health services.
He asked the borough attorney to determine the borough’s obligations, with an eye toward getting a competing quote from the county.
“I really think we need statistical data and a legal opinion to see if we can save money” by going through the county, Menna said.
