The surge in car break-ins continues.
Rumson police reported 18 cars were broken into and items stolen overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.
And again, it’s the same situation towns all over The Green have experienced.
“Every car that was broken into was unlocked,” Police Chief Richard Tobias said.
The burglaries occurred on the east side of town, on Blackpoint Horseshoe Road, Pond Road and Evergreen Drive, Tobias said.
He said the borough has “experienced numerous car break-ins in recent weeks,” and the latest round has put police on elevated alert. The department is expected to take increased measures in trying to track down the suspect(s), including increasing patrols in targeted areas, he said.
Officers have also maintained contact with Monmouth County detectives to solve the torrent of break-ins over the course of three months in Red Bank, Fair Haven, Shrewsbury, Little Silver and Rumson.
Police urge residents to lock their cars and remove any valuables.
Anyone with tips or witnesses suspicious activity are asked to call Rumson Detective Chris Isherwood, who is the lead investigator, at 732.842.0500
