A five-month-old vacancy on middle Broad Street in Red Bank is about to be filled with foam.
And in the heart of downtown, a stigma-beating consignment shop has completed its rapid move-in to the former home of Funk and Standard.

The foam that will fill 132 Broad is to be in the form of Tempurpedic mattresses. Monmouth Mattress will also feature all-organic mattresses, pillows and other bedding accessories made of materials that “never come into contact with anything artificial or chemical” in their production, store owner Jeff Bonham tells redbankgreen‘s Retail Churn.
The store is to be the 12th in a family-owned chain that brands each shop with a local name another is Princeton Mattress, in Princeton. Four of the stores are in New York, and three in Florida.
Bonham took the 2,200-square-foot space vacated in April by Surray Luggage because, he said, “we think Red Bank is a fantastic town with a lot of potential for what we do.
“It’s a lot like Princeton,” he said. “It’s a thriving downtown shopping area with a more upscale consumer.”
Bonham hopes to pull back the sheets by October 8. Coldwell Banker’s Joann Clark, one of the more energetic matchmakers downtown, did the deal.
Another small chain with a store in Princeton has opened for business at 40 Broad. Philadelphia-based Greene Street Consignment, which sells slightly worn, mid-range” clothing brands such as J. Crew, Abercrombie & Fitch and Eileen Fisher for women, children and men, has been doing brisk business since its debut last Friday, the store’s manager tells Churn.
Clothing and novelty retailer Funk and Standard, along with its Yummy Yummy Good Stuff juice bar, is in the process of moving to the basement at 7 Broad. The store has missed a couple of posted opening dates, and the latest anticipated opening date could not be immediately learned.
