SUSPECT ARRESTED IN GAS STATION HOLDUP

This just in from the Middletown PD:

On April 23, 2013 Detective Kelly Godley of the Middletown Police Department arrested Darius Williams, age 24, from Witmer Place in Long Branch, NJ, for Armed Robbery, Possession of an Imitation Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose and Theft as a result of the April 18, 2013 armed robbery of the Raceway Gas Station located on Highway 35 in Middletown.

The arrest came after Detective Lieutenant Raymond Chaparro and Detective Sergeant Jeff Pilone of the Long Branch Police Department located a vehicle that matched the description of one used in an armed robbery of a liquor store in Long Branch on April 22, 2013.

The officers conducted an investigation which resulted in the arrest of Williams for the robbery of the liquor store. The detectives then contacted Detective Kelly Godley of the Middletown Police Department and Detective Anthony Murray of the Bradley Beach Police Department after the officers realized that Williams fit the description of the suspect in the Raceway Gas Station robbery in Middletown and the April 9, 2013 robbery of a 7-11 Store in Bradley Beach.

The officers worked together in conducting a follow up investigation which resulted in Williams being charged in the three armed robberies. He was being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility in Freehold, NJ, on $800,000.00 bail set by Judge Francis Vernoia of the Monmouth County Superior Court.

The Middletown Police Department gives credit to Detective Lieutenant Chaparro and Detective Sergeant Pilone for the excellent police work that resulted in locating the vehicle used in the robberies and developing Williams as a suspect. It is another example of how officers and police departments share information and work together to solve crimes.
