RBR: HELP THE JIRKS LIGHT IT UP

A fundraising effort to install field lights at Red Bank Regional moves into its final stages later this month.

Volunteers from the RBR Buccaneer Athletic Foundation, who’ve been on the task for nearly two years, are organizing a bash to be held at Red Bank’s Fixx on May 23.

Foundation representatives have previously estimated the cost of the lighting, which would enable evening football, soccer and lacrosse games be played at the school, at between $300,000 and $400,000.

From a foundation press release:

The evening promises to be a fun event with food, refreshment specials and great entertainment, as the shore-area icon, Brian Kirk & The Jirks will be performing. The Fixx is located at 26 West Front Street in Red Bank. The event takes place from 7 to 11 pm; tickets are $50 per person for advance tickets, $60 per person the night of the event. To order tickets visit www.lettherebelights.org or mail a check to the Buccaneer Athletic Foundation, P.O. Box 51, Little Silver, NJ 07739.

In the release, foundation president Cathy Reardon said the lights would “bring parity to our athletic program with other schools in our division; it will also help improve our athletes’ performance allowing for more practice time beyond sunset. Most importantly, it will enhance game attendance, school spirit and offer a safe, social gathering place for our community.”
