REFORM TEMPLE HOSTS STUDENT ART EVENT

Press release from Monmouth Festival of the Arts

The Monmouth Reform Temple in Tinton Falls — site of the Monmouth Festival of the Arts (MFA) — will once more be the setting for a Student Art Competition and Art Workshops on Sunday, February 9.

All junior year student artists from Monmouth and Ocean counties are invited to participate, free of charge, in the annual event. Winners receive first, second and third place prizes of $100, $75 and $50. Art competition judges include professional artists Patricia Hutchinson, Amy Faris, and Bob Mataranglo, and a reception for family and friends will take place between 4 and 5 pm, when the winners are announced.

This year, while the Festival of the Arts is on hiatus, the winning students’ art work will be displayed at the Eastern Branch of the Monmouth County Library in Shrewsbury during the entire month of April.

Additionally, art workshops will be presented by local artists and will take place simultaneous to the art competition. These include: “Matting & Framing for the Best Presentation” by Pen & Ink Artist Dave McGrath and “Calligraphy, The art of beautiful writing” presented by Mychelle Kendrick, an award-winning artist and calligrapher. Participation in the workshops is open to all 11th grade students, and not limited to those presenting in the competition. MFA workshops are designed to provide high school art students with practical information related to preparation and presentation of their works for submission to college interviews and art shows.

Student check-in for the competition is at 1 pm. To register for the competition, please call (732)801-4707 or visit the event web site here.
