Emergency repair work on the New Jersey Transit railroad crossing at Navesink River Road in Middletown will mean a shutdown of the crossing to vehicular traffic for up to 12 days later this month, the township announced Thursday.

According to a notice on the township website and warning signs posted on area roadway, the crossing, located between Hubbard Avenue and Route 35, will be off-limits to vehicles 24 hours a day starting Monday, August 18. The closure will be in effect for approximately 10 to 12 days.

The closing won’t affect rail transportation, according to the announcement.

“NJ Transit must complete this emergency repair work before schools starts,” the posting says.

Detours will be in place, and township officials ask users to plan alternate routes. For additional info, call the Middletown police traffic bureau at 732-615-2045.
