The motorist charged with drunk driving after crashing his car into the back of a Red Bank store early Sunday morning is a Rumson police officer, redbankgreen has learned.
Sergeant Damien Brennan, 37, of Howell, was charged with DWI and careless driving after crashing his Chevy Camaro into a dumpster behind Fisher Diamonds, at the corner of White and Broad streets, shortly after midnight, Red Bank police Chief Darren McConnell confirmed.
redbankgreen originally reported the driver’s identity as Dennis Brennan, based on a text from McConnell. McConnell said the text included an errant autocorrect of the first name that he did not notice until asked by redbankgreen.
Brennan was taken to Riverview Medical Center when he complained of pain, but was not seriously injured, McConnell said.
Rumson Chief Scott Paterson confirmed that Brennan is an officer in his department. He said Brennan has been placed on administrative leave. Paterson said he would not comment further, given the pendency of the charges.
The rear of the jewelry store sustained superficial damage inside and out as a result of the dumpster smashing into it from the collision, said building inspector John Drucker.
Brennan was in the news last week as one of two officers who discovered a Rumson party at which some 50 underage attendees were alleged to have been drinking.
