Sea Bright’s fire chief was arrested on a domestic violence charge last week, according to borough police Chief John Sorrentino.
Police arrested Andrew “Brett” Murphy at his Ocean Avenue home at 3:20 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, Sorrentino told redbankgreen Tuesday.
Details of the incident were not disclosed. Murphy, 24, did not respond to requests for comment.
Murphy serves as the “department” chief of the volunteer fire squad, a membership-elected position that gives him command on the scene of a fire, according to borough ordinance. Murphy’s brother, Chad, serves as “administrative” chief, a position filled by the borough council to oversee the operations of the department. Their father, former Councilman C. Read Murphy, is an ex-chief who remains active in the department.
Murphy is scheduled to appear in municipal court on April 7, Sorrentino said.
