The Pokémon Go craze that’s gripped America this month continues to bring legions of visitors to Red Bank. Necks craned toward their cellphones, players can be seen wandering downtown in a virtual hunt for cartoon critters at 30 Pokéstops and five Battle Gyms.
“People are basically zombies walking around,” says 16-year-old borough resident Morgan O’Keefe, seen above right with Jonah Brewer, who had a little sartorial fun with the fad Tuesday night.
Officials at Red Bank RiverCenter are hoping the craze reaches a new high Thursday, when they host Pokémon Go Night, an attempt to draw more players into stores and restaurants with live music, discounts and “tons of lures all through town.” Meantime, a photo contest that’s part of the promotion continues through Sunday.
