redbankgreen stopped in the Red Bank Public Library to snap a photo of Library Director Eleni Glykis as she departs for a job in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Here’s the press release from the library bidding her adieu:

The Red Bank Public Library (RBPL) announces that Library Director Eleni Glykis will be
stepping down on January 23rd, 2025, after six years of leadership. Throughout her tenure, Ms.
Glykis steered the library through a period of significant growth, including the challenges of the
pandemic, while introducing innovative programs and expanding services to meet the evolving
needs of the Red Bank community.
Under her direction, RBPL launched key initiatives, such as the “But Wait, There’s More”
Collection, a 24/7 Locker System, and the Spanish Language Driver’s Education Program.
These projects helped solidify the library’s role as a vital community resource. The library also
saw increased community engagement, with 67,000 visitors in 2024—a 45% increase from the
previous year—and record participation in programs and library services.
“2024 was nothing short of remarkable,” Ms. Glykis continued. “Our programming reached new
heights, and community involvement surged across every metric. People are coming back to the
library—not just for books, but for real stories and real connections.”
As Ms. Glykis moves on to serve as the Director of the Elizabeth Public Library, one of New
Jersey’s largest and most diverse libraries, she reflects on her time in Red Bank. “This journey
has been more than just a professional chapter—it’s been transformative,” she shared. “I’m
excited for the next phase, but I’ll always be grateful for the community I had the privilege to
serve.”
Ms.Glykis added, “The Red Bank Public Library has flourished thanks to the dedication,
creativity, and hard work of our team, the unwavering support of our incredible Board of
Trustees, the Foundation for the Red Bank Public Library, the Borough of Red Bank— and of
course, the amazing Red Bank community. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and
I’m eager to bring that same commitment to my new role at the Elizabeth Public Library.”
Candyce Valor, current Assistant Director, will take over as Interim Director following Ms. Glykis’
departure. With over 15 years of experience at RBPL, Mrs. Valor has been integral to the
library’s operations and is well-positioned to lead it into its next phase.
“The library will continue to thrive under Candyce Valor’s leadership,” Ms. Glykis added. “She
has an in-depth understanding of the library’s needs and the community it serves.”
The Board of Trustees extends their thanks to Ms.Glykis for her dedication and service and
wishes her success in her next role at the Elizabeth Public Library.
