Here’s the answer to last week’s “Where.”
Last week’s photo was a close-up of the painted walls on the north side of the building at 193 Shrewsbury Avenue that now houses Mi Lupita’s Kitchen.
The colorful decor of the building, both inside and out, is the work of entrepreneur Juan Torres, who owns Juanito’s Restaurant on Monmouth Street, Juanito’s Market (right next door at 191 Shrewsbury Avenue) and Juanito’s Bakery on right near the train station on Monmouth Street.
He built the building at 193 Shrewsbury Avenue with the intention of opening Juanito’s Charcoal Grill. That eatery was short-lived and gave way to another short-lived restaurant Toro Rojo and, earlier this year, Mi Lupita’s, whose former home on Bridge Avenue is being turned into condos.
One person guessed this photo was the side of Juanito’s restaurant on Monmouth Street, which has similar Mexican-themed exterior walls. Someone else guessed just “Juanito’s” so it was hard to tell if they thought it was Juanito’s Market, Juanito’s Restaurant, Juanitos Bakery. Understandable confusion. I mean, the guy – and his wonderful, colorful decor style – is everywhere!
