RED BANK: PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY CAB

just_in-2855557A New York City man suffered a leg injury when he was struck by a taxi on Broad Street in Red Bank Thursday morning, police said.

The accident, at the intersection of Linden Place, occurred almost two weeks after a 78-year old woman died as a result of injuries sustained when she was struck by a truck as she crossed Broad Street at Pinckney Road on June 23.

According to Chief Darren McConnell, Nin Chen, 36, of Brooklyn, was struck as he crossed Broad in the crosswalk at Linden at about 11 a.m. Thursday.

Chen was transported to Riverview Medical Center for a laceration of a leg and complaints of pain, McConnell said.

Chen was struck by a southbound Red Bank Yellow Cab sedan driven by 73-year-old Douglas Renigan or Keansburg, who told police he saw the pedestrian in the crosswalk but could not explain why he didn’t stop, McConnell said.

Renigan was issued summonses for careless driving and failure to yield to a pedestrian, he said.

According to a posting on a cremation service website, borough resident Virgelino Cano, 78, died on June 28, five days after she was struck crossing Broad Street in front of the Super Foodtown market. Emergency responders had transported her from the scene to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune.

No official announcement of her death was made, and no biographical information could be obtained.

Michael Phillips, 42, of Brick, the driver of the box truck that struck Cano, has not been charged pending completion of an investigation, McConnell said
