Sunny and cool weather provided ideal conditions for the return of the Red Bank RiverCenter-hosted Guinness Oyster Festival Sunday.
After a missed year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s 11th edition saw fewer local restaurants owing to staffing shortages. But thousands of attendees packed the White Street parking lot, waited patiently in lines for food and drinks, and partied with friends in front of two stages as in the past.

An ideal day of sunshine and early-autumn temperatures drew thousands of foodies and music lovers — including fans of folk singer Melanie, at right — to downtown Red Bank for the ninth annual Guinness Oyster Festival Sunday.
An alumnus of both Red Bank Regional and Woodstock, Melanie played a short set and signed autographs.

With temperatures hovering in the mid-80s, it was “ten degrees too hot” to draw the usual elbow-to-elbow crowd to the eighth annual Guinness Oyster Festival in Red Bank Sunday, one vendor told redbankgreen.
“The weather is not our friend today,” said Jim Scavone, executive director of event sponsor Red Bank RiverCenter.
Still, the turnout was strong, he said, and “people here having fun, and they’re drinking lots of beer.”

For the fourth year in a row, autumn kicks off this weekend with the Red Bank Guinness Oyster Festival. Featuring headliner bivalves and brew, the event is also a showcase for dozens of local restaurants, a fundraiser, and an open-air music event that draws thousands of visitors to the White Street municipal parking lot. Red Bank is about to get its fourth outdoor food fest, one that allows, for the first time, the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages in a public park.
Sponsored by the culinary alliance Red Bank Flavour, the two-day ‘Sippin on the River’ chowdown won clearance from the borough council Wednesday night to set up its tents in Marine Park on Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30, in Marine Park.
In addition to the charity aspect, which all our festivals have, said Flavour founder and restaurateur George Lyristis, this festival is designed to give people a great reason to come down to Red Bank to try out some of the best local food around, and have some wine or beer.”

Start that diet or get ready to loosen your belt some more, because here comes another heaping plateful.
Red Bank RiverCenter, having pulled off two annual Guinness Oyster Festivals that each drew tens of thousands of visitors downtown, plans to add an International Food Festival to the same location the White Street municipal parking lot next spring.
The tentative date for the one-day event is Saturday, May 6, and as with Oysterfest, the event will serve as a showcase for Red Bank restaurants, says RiverCenter executive director Nancy Adams.
Twenty-five Red Bank restaurants supplied culinary delights such as lobster rolls, seafood chowder, corned-beef sandwiches, bacon-topped cupcakes and, of course, Guinness and oysters by the boatload for thousands of visitors to the White Street municipal lot.
