Residents gathered near the Red Bank train station late Monday to usher in Mexican Independence Day, September 16. The gathering included the traditional “El Grito” call and response delivered by the Mexican president from the balcony of the National Palace at 11 pm each September 15 at 11 pm. In this case El Grito rang out from the bed of a pickup truck.
The Independence Day eve gathering has become an informal annual tradition in recent years.
