Red Bank Councilman David Cassidy bid farewell to his fellow members of the governing body Thursday night, his final meeting before his term ends at the end of December. Cassidy, who did not seek re-election due to a career change, will be replaced by Ben Yuro, who ran unopposed for the seat in last month’s election.
Cassidy was elected in 2023 along with fellow members of the slate led by Mayor Billy Portman that swept into office in the first election after the borough instituted a new form of government. Members drew straws to determine who would serve an initial two-year terms in order to create staggered elections in ensuing years.
Cassidy, who also serves as a volunteer firefighter, thanked his fellow council members and Borough Manager Jim Gant for their accolades and said he was confident the progress the group had achieved would continue. Referring to the bin of colored candy in front of him, he predicted little would change in terms of policy.
“What’s going to change is I won’t be eating Skittles for dinner on Thursday nights,” he joked.
