SIZZLE & STYLE COMING TO BROAD

A key vacancy in downtown Red Bank appears to have been filled.

Two businesses are slated to take over the former home of Zebu Forno: Boardwalk Fresh Burgers & Fries and a young women’s apparel retailer that the owner hasn’t yet decided on a name for.

The dual space, which was two storefronts prior to a Zebu expansion some years ago, will be restored with a separating wall.

A sign placed in the window by Red Bank RiverCenter in one of the spaces says that L.A. Roxx is coming. But owner Leah Cole tells redbankgreen she has not yet settled on that name or the the store’s theme.

She says the shop, which she expects to open in March, will feature “moderate contemporary” styles.

The southern portion of the address has been leased by Boardwalk, a franchiser with stores in 10 states, and two others in New Jersey, in Hackensack and Maple Shade, according to its website.

No information about the opening date was immediately available.

Zebu, a coffee-based casual bistro, packed up and moved out in September after the resolution of a rent dispute. A RiverCenter official says owner Andrew Gennusa expects to reopen just a few doors north, at 12 Broad, later this month.

There’s no word on whether another burger place will be replacing Willy’s, a cheese steak joint that vacated 21 Monmouth Street in October. A business called Kind Burgers won approved by the borough zoning office back in September, but there’s been no activity since then, officials say. An attorney for the business did not respond to a request for an update.

Papers on file with the borough say Kind Burgers would offer burgers made with beef, bison, turkey or chicken, with a vegetarian option, along with cheese steaks and hot dogs.
