SHREWSBURY: PAIR CHARGED IN ATM SCHEME

shrews-suspect-081115-1-156x220-1057540Shrewsbury police arrested two men on fraud-related charges after they rigged a bank ATM machine with data-stealing equipment Sunday, redbankgreen has learned.

Drini Kupi, 26, and Mejdina Miodrag, 32, both of Ridgewood, New York, were apprehended. A third suspect, seen in the surveillance photo at right and and below, is being sought by police, Lieutenant Bob Turner said in a prepared statement.

shrews-suspect-081115-2-48x220-3162682Information was not immediately available on the time of the arrest or whether police caught the suspects while installing or removing the skimmer, which captures personal identification numbers and other critical data used in banking. Police confiscated the device prior to the suspects gaining access to the information on it, the statement said.

The third suspect is known only as “Sammy,” the statement said.

According to the initial report, the device was installed at a Chase bank branch at 1150 Broad Street.

Both Miodrag and Kupi were charged with credit card theft and conspiracy, and Kupi was additionally charged with resisting arrest for running into traffic after being told he was under arrest, according to a report filed in the case.

Both were held on $50,000 bail, without the option to post 10 percent in lieu of the full amount. As of late Tuesday afternoon, Kupi was still being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution and Miodrag had been released, according to the county sheriff’s website.
