Just in time for the sudden onset of springlike weather and the end, we hope, of the mini ice-age winter we’ve experienced, a long-crystallizing frozen dessert business has opened in Red Bank.
The debut yesterday of Frozsürt marks the first time in more than half a century that no newspapers are being sold at 2 Monmouth Street, the longtime home of Red Bank News.
Frozsürt sells frozen yogurt desserts and smoothies, and will soon add coffee to the menu.
Daniel Natale and retired Red Bank Police Captain Aurelio Ramos are the owners, and the business is staffed by their teenaged children, with help from other relatives. Natale spent the past four or five months almost singlehandedly transforming the store into a brightly-painted space with attractive wood flooring.
In other Retail Churn news, the high-end women’s casualwear store Rok + Lola packed up and vacated its space at 58 Broad Street this week, decamping to an unknown location. The store’s owner declined comment.
