A two-car accident on Rumson Road sent an unknown number of people to the hospital Saturday morning and left an ugly scene for emergency responders to clean up.
Fire Chief Kevin McCarthy said those involved in the accident, in which a white Lexus sports utility vehicle flipped over on the side of the road, were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
“Everybody was out of the area when we got here,” he said at about 11a.

Emergency personnel from Rumson and Sea Bright were called to the scene around 10:30a, just east of Bellevue Avenue, where the SUV and a beige Nissan Sentra apparently collided.
The Lexus ended up on its roof on the north side of the road, in front of a home at 134 Rumson Road. The Nissan sat idle, sideways, on the north side of the road, with its front end mangled and left driver’s side tire popped off the rim.
The accident shut down traffic between Bellevue and Buena Vista avenues as responders worked to clear the scene. As of 11:15a, the stretch of road was still closed off.
