They also unveiled a timetable for the proposal, which calls for a domino chain of real estate acquisition, construction and the sale of property to help fund it all.

Two residential building lots created by the November demolition of Rumson’s former police station are expected to yield at least $800,000 for the town.

The borough council agreed Tuesday night to auction the adjoining Center Street lots separately, each with a minimum bid of $400,000, Administrator Tom Rogers tells redbankgreen.

rumson-pd-0707101A chapter of Rumson’s history ended Tuesday as wreckers tore down a building that served for decades as the town’s police headquarters and, before that, a telephone switching station.

In its place, say town officials, will likely be two new homes, completing the property’s transformation from an oddity: a classically elegant red brick standing incongruously among modest homes.

LAWSUIT TO COST BOROUGH $125,000

Public comment on a proposed settlement of a long-simmering dispute over the former Red Bank police station was temporarily halted Wednesday night after a resident questioned whether the issue had been properly advertised.

But not before borough officials outlined the terms of the deal with the Community YMCA that will cost borough taxpayers $125,000 over five years — and not before residents began castigating it as a no-win deal for the town.
