M’TOWN: ACCUSED STABBER BRIEFLY ESCAPES
A Middletown man accused of viciously stabbing a shopper at a Bed Bath and Beyond store in the township three years ago was recaptured after he escaped from a Mercer County mental institution over the weekend, NJ.com reported.
Tyrik Haynes, 22, escaped from the Trenton Psychiatric Hospital on Saturday and was found by state Human Services police officers in Ewing Township, where the facility is located, Sunday afternoon, according to the report.
From NJ.com:
“Due to the ongoing investigation by Human Services Police, they did not provide much more information other than the fact that he was located outside of Ewing Township,” the Ewing [police department] announcement said.
Ewing police alerted the public about Haynes’ escape late Saturday with a post on the township’s website that said he should be considered “dangerous.”
he had last been seen on the grounds of the hospital, the alert added.
Haynes was arrested for the January, 2013 attack in which a 29-year-old Keansburg woman was repeatedly stabbed in the Route 35 housewares store. He was indicted six months later on three counts, including attempted murder and weapons charges.
The disposition of the charges could not immediately be learned.
