Little Silver officials hope to solve a longstanding problem of access to ballfields with the purchase of a vacant property, under action initiated by the borough council.

But it’s far from a done deal, hinging on financial help from Monmouth County and the property still being available when the town’s ready to make an offer.

REGISTER NOW FOR TWO RIVER LITTLE LEAGUE

9u-trll-east-teamThe season of wintry weather may have descended upon the local baseball diamond, but January means thoughts of “Play Ball!”, as the first month of the calendar year represents registration time for Two River Little League.

trll-logoCome spring time, recreation baseball and softball will be in full swing as TRLL begins its fourth season. Founded in 2013, the league welcomes young residents of Red Bank, Little Silver, Shrewsbury, Fair Haven and Rumson.

Participation in the league has grown each year, and in 2016 the league had its first tournament champion when the 9U TRLL East team (above) won the highly competitive NJ District 19 baseball tournament.

COLTS ARE TOPS AGAIN AS DALATRI WINS 35TH

Christian Brothers Academy pitcher Luca Dalatri broke the all-time Shore Conference wins record with a complete-game shutout against Middletown South in Lakewood Wednesday. Shore Sports Zone has full highlights and post-game coverage of the Colts’ 2-0 win  for their third consecutive Shore Conference baseball championship.

The right-handed Dalatri now has 35 victories, and is expected to be selected during the MLB Amateur Draft which begins on Thursday night.   

CBA TOPS RBC FOR DALATRI’S 34TH WIN

Christian Brothers Academy held off Red Bank Catholic, 5-3, to advance to the Shore Conference final in a great high school baseball game at Count Basie Field in Red Bank Wednesday night. 

CBA pitcher Luca Dalatri tied the all-time conference wins record with 34, but it didn’t come without a scare. Entering the game having given up just one run and two walks all season, the right-hander ceded two hits and three RBIs to Evan Madigan alone, and had to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh to pick up the complete game victory. Shore Sports Zone has all the highlights.

RBC MOVES TO SEMIS ON EXTRA-INNINGS WIN

rb batting 072715 1Brothers and former major leaguers Jeff Frazier (who played seven years with the Tigers, Marlins and Nationals) and Charlie Frazier (six years with the Marlins) of Frazier Baseball put on a batting clinic for about 100 kids at Count Basie Fields in Red Bank Monday morning – and waived the $99 fee for about two dozen boys and girls from the borough rec department’s spring softball and baseball squads, said department Director Tamila Bumback.

CBA ICES DON BOSCO FOR STATE CROWN

Baseball powerhouse Don Bosco Prep came into the Non-Public “A” state championship game at Toms River East on Sunday game with a 29-0 record and a national ranking. But Christian Brothers Academy, led by pitcher Luca Dalatri, were unfazed. Dalatri threw a complete game, striking out 12, and added a solo homer in the fifth as the Colts stopped the Ironmen cold, 7-0. CBA TOPS RBC FOR SCT BASEBALL CROWN

In a game rescheduled twice for rainouts, Joe Gargana and Kenny Campbell combined on a four-hit shutout as Lincroft’s Christian Brothers Academy blanked rival Red Bank Catholic, 4-0, to win its second straight Shore Conference baseball title at Toms River North Thursday evening. RED BANK: CASEYS SHELLAC BUCS, 15-6

Anthony DeRosa and Evan Madigan drove in four runs each as Red Bank Catholic swamped Red Bank Regional, 15-6, in Little Silver Wednesday morning. The Bucs closed a 5-1 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the 4th, highlighted by a Nick Massa two-run base hit, but the Caseys answered with four runs in the 5th to put the game away.
