Rumson kids will get an opportunity to win a new bike and enjoy a day of free fun activities — all while learning the basics of bicycle safety — when the borough presents its third annual Bike Rodeo event this Saturday, May 21. Going on between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Blackpoint Road (between Forrestdale and Deane-Porter Schools), the event is co-sponsored by the Borough of Rumson, the Rumson Police Department, and the Rumson PTO, and is offered free of charge to students in grades K through 8, who attend any of the schools in the borough (Deane-Porter, Forrestdale, Holy Cross, Rumson Country Day School).
Featured will be a bicycle inspection and safety checks (including helmets, toddler seats and chassis), in addition to six bike-safety skill stations. Also on hand will be up-close tours of a working fire truck and ambulance, plus food, treats, prizes, games and DJ music. Children should be accompanied by a parent, have a bicycle and helmet, and wear closed-toe shoes.
A series of bike races with prizes for first place winners in several age groups (as well as medals for all participants) will commence at 11:30 a.m., and a raffle for a pair of new bicycles will be held at the close of the event. Contact Borough Hall for weather-related updates or additional information.
