The tune is called ‘Red Bank Blue,’ and the composer/guitarist is Dave Crowton, 47-year-old lifelong borough resident.
redbankgreen asked Crowton, via Facebook, what makes this a Red Bank tune.
Here’s his reply:
In the summer I do a great deal of my practicing on my front porch, it’s a great neighborhood 4 west lake rd. tucked away behind Rassas. Anyway there really is no reason for the title other than I wrote it on my front porch on a lazy August day and I was feeling kind of blue. Sometimes when you write instrumental music, coming up with a title is the hardest part. I wrote the song about two years ago, made a quick recording stuffed it in a drawer and forgot about it. I found the tape last summer and proceeded to refine it. I recorded it with several instruments and then decided to make it into a solo piece. So I had to learn it over again playing all the parts at once. Thanks for listening
Until recently, Crowton co-hosted an open mic night at Danny’s Steakhouse on Sunday nights with guitarist/vocalist Carol Barbieri. They hope to resume in February, possibly at the Downtown. Stay tuned.
Meantime, pop over to YouTube for some more of Crowton’s fingerpicking. Also check out this piece that Carol, who is also a writer, published recently about Crowton.
