RED BANK: BROTHER CHARGED IN COP ASSAULT

AUTHORITIES_RB2Two Red Bank brothers were arrested following a scrap in which one of them is alleged to have assaulted a borough police officer at a taxi stand Sunday afternoon.

Rene Tepoz-Santamaria, 18 years old, is alleged to have kicked Patrolman Paul Perez in the ribs during an altercation at the Yellow Cab office on Oakland Street at around 4:35 p.m., Chief Darren McConnell said in a prepared statement.

According to McConnell, Perez and Patrolman Garrett Falco responded to a report of two unwanted subjects refusing to leave the cab company’s office.

While being questioned, Tepoz-Santamaria is alleged to have shoved Falco, triggering a struggle during which the defendant refused to be handcuffed, McConnell said.

The  defendant’s brother, Joe Tepoz-Santamaria, 19, is alleged to have interfered with the arrest.

Perez was treated for a hand injury and released from Riverview Medical Center.

Rene Tepoz-Santamaria was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Municipal court Judge William Himelman set bail at $34,500, with no 10 percent option, and the defendant was taken to the Monmouth County lockup in Freehold.

His brother was charged with disorderly conduct and released on a summons.
